President George W. Bush, bowing to Democratic pressure for new health insurance regulations, urged passage of a “patients’ bill of rights” as one of his top three priorities for July.

“The Congress must act on a patients’ bill of rights, a good patients’ bill of rights, one that recognizes patients are important, not lawyers,” Bush said, addressing a group of young volunteers in the White House Rose Garden.

“We’ve got the makings for a good bill,” Bush added.

But the White House said Bush remained opposed to legislation that passed the Democratic-controlled Senate in June despite a veto threat over provisions allowing patients to sue health maintenance organizations.

Supporters of the Senate measure in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives say they can pass a similar bill, but House leaders hoped to pass a measure backed by Bush with stricter limits on lawsuits.

With Americans favoring a patient protections bill by a ratio of 5-to-1 according to a Gallup poll released earlier this month, and Democratic leaders in the Senate making the legislation a top priority, Bush is eager to be seen as supporting some form of protection.

He was later to visit patients at a hospital in the Washington suburb of Fairfax, Virginia.

Outlining his other priorities for the month between Congress’s Independence Day break, which ends this week, and its summer recess in August, Bush also urged passage of education reforms and his proposal to provide government backing for social services provided by religious organizations.

“Those are the three items that the president thinks are on America’s front burner,” White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said.

Bush omitted from the list his proposed energy plan to stimulate domestic production and promote conservation and his call for “fast track” authority to negotiate expedited trade agreements, as aides said the other items had better prospects for quick passage.

“The three that he focused on today are the ones that are nearest passage…further down the process,” Bush aide Dan Bartlett said.

After Democrats took control of the Senate in June, party leaders vowed to make the healthcare legislation a top priority, along with an increase in the minimum wage and a prescription drug benefit under Medicare.

They pushed Bush’s aims to pass his energy plan, missile defense strategy and possible corporate tax breaks to the back burner.

But the White House spokesman described as “nonsense” charges that the president had lost control of the political agenda. “The president is doing very, very well, and his agenda is being very well received,” Fleischer said.

Our website is the resource intended to find great cheap health insurance deals from the most reliable and most successful providers, moreover youmay get information you want to make your shopping effective, fruitful.

Did your doctor give you another prescription, this time for tramadol? So the doctor thinks a different drug will work to ease your pain, but who has money to try out another expensive prescription? Your anxiety is understandable. The current prices for medicine can be outrageous. You may not realize it, but it doesn’t have to be this way. You can buy low cost tramadol online and avoid the headache, plus save plenty of money!

You might first want to know why you can get cheap tramadol online. Is there a catch that will trip you up if you order online? Relax in the knowledge that there is no trick to it, and nothing bad will happen. Getting low cost tramadol online is just a good idea for people who are using this popular medication to manage pain.

Tramadol is inexpensive to purchase at online pharmacies. It is one of several drugs that can be obtained cheaply and easily online. You may be wondering why it is possible to cut the costs so dramatically. The reason is that online pharmacies don’t have the high overhead costs of brick and mortar pharmacies. It costs less to process all prescriptions online. There is no scam to the low cost tramadol you will find online. It is simply a good deal.

Again, there is nothing tricky about it. Online pharmacies can buy in bulk, so they are able to sell cheaply. They pass their savings on to their customers. In this way, they know they will attract more customers and will make up for the low prices in volume sold.

Low cost, online tramadol is just as high quality as the product you would purchase at your corner drug store. Online pharmacies have exactly the same drugs as brick and mortar stores. The only difference is the way in which they obtain their medications. They buy huge amounts and stock large quantities of exactly the same drugs you will find in your local drug store. They look the same and are created in exactly the same way; however, they are much, much cheaper. So have no fear. You can buy tramadol online and enjoy exactly the same benefits you would find with the product you can purchase at your local store – complete relief from chronic pain.

In Conclusion:

When I started this article, I had no idea just writing about these trees would bring profound thoughts and yet here I sit, awestruck. Like Bobby Lake-Thom so eloquently put it, “I have learned from my elder mentors that a closer relationship to Nature does indeed bring meaning to our lives.”

I am beginning to understand the significance of Lake-Thom’s words, “If things in society get to the extreme that Nature can no longer communicate to us, or if it gets to the point that we, as human beings, can no longer recognize and understand the symbolic communication, then we will no longer thrive as a species.”

Is it any wonder that Runners flock to the grove to run in the Avenue of the Giants marathon in the spring and the Humboldt Redwoods in the fall and 10K, relay and half-marathons held under these significant trees.

Perhaps Dr. Zinke said it best, “It may be an object of mystery. It may represent discovery to us. It may represent knowledge, or just physical exercise and play. But the opportunity to enjoy the forest and the trees first hand is of course, a primary necessity of many people.”

For more information about this year’s marathons or to register online go to Avenue of the Giants and Humboldt Marathon.

“In order for us to survive as a species, we must learn to identify the purpose, function and symbolic meaning of these natural powers. We must learn how such powers actually influence and/or affect our lives.” His book is a step in that direction.

Lake-Thom also points out this communication with nature is not exclusive to Native Americans. Europeans, Africans, Asians and people in the Middle East studied it to know when to plant or harvest crops, when to sail, or even when to get married. Many of the ancient lessons are found in the Farmer’s Almanac even today.

Unfortunately, when the settlers moved into the Sinkyone/Redwoods area, the U.S. soldiers slaughtered thousands of their people and dragged the others off to reservations. Lake-Thom explains, “When the first Europeans came to this country, they saw our Native American people praying to the Sun, Moon, Stars, Rivers … to the Trees and Plants …. For some strange reason they developed the idea that we did not believe in God [despite many references to the Great Spirit] …. The truth is that not only did the American Indians worship God, but they also respected and communicated with that which God had created.”

So the Native Americans have been communicating with the trees for thousands of years. They’re familiar with the tree’s significance both directly and indirectly.

Physical Impact: The Water Connection

Violet Snow points out “Trees are major transformers of energy, converting water, sunlight and air into food, fuel, shelter, shade, and more.” She asserts, “If you stand under a tree, it will transform your energy too.”

She might be onto something regarding energy and water. If we break down anything, tree or rock, to its subatomic level, we find it is energy. Energy is magnetic (attracting other energies) and fluid (flowing like water, changing and changeable). In fact, over time, moving water can change the shape of a rock.

Given the fact that our bodies are 75 percent water (10 gallons — comprising 50 to 70 percent of body weight) and every system in our bodies is vitally dependent on water (including our brains, which are 85 percent water), the knowledge that these Redwoods soak up thousands of gallons of water from the fog and rain starts to seem significant.

According to “Water has a firmly established and essential hydrolytic role in all aspects of body metabolism — water-dependent chemical reactions (hydrolysis). Similar to the chemical powers of water that make a seed grow and produce a new plant or a tree: the power of water that is used in the chemistry of life.” So water has power.

Furthermore, Doctor says, “Products manufactured in the brain cells are transported on ‘waterways’ to their destination in the nerve endings for use in the transmission of messages. There seem to exist small waterways … along the length of nerves that ‘float’” the messages along.

Could this be scientific proof that we do communicate with trees via energetic vibrations created by water pulsing through our cells responding to the water held in the spongy bark of the massive trees? Could water and energy be the mysterious and unexplained ability we (and the Native Americans) call “intuition?”

On a lighter note, although the first years of the Giants marathon featured California sunshine and wild flowers-in-bloom, the rainy years spawned most of the unforgettable memories (legends are made from) like waking up in your tent sopping wet the morning of the race, huddling under the Dyerville Bridge trying to dry off before the wet race begins and the first marathon wedding ceremony.

Q.Short of surgery, what can be done with ruptured disks in the neck? Symptoms include weakness in both arms (more so on left side), tingling down arms into hands and fingers, swelling on the back of neck, muscle spasms, and pain in the neck, shoulders and arms.

R.H.

A.Discs are components of the spine that serve as cushions between vertebrae (spinal bones). When a disc is injured or irritated, it may herniate (bulge) or rupture (break). If the inflamed disk presses against the spinal cord or nerve roots in the spine, it can cause pain or other symptoms. When this occurs in the lumbar spine (lower back), the result may be sciatica, pain that radiates down the legs. When it occurs in the cervical (neck) spine, compression of nerve roots can cause pain that flows into the arms. The term we use for this disorder of spinal nerve roots is radiculopathy.

A. Treatment of herniated discs in the cervical spine is a complex issue, and there are many factors involved. One such factor is the size of the disc. Another is the size of the spinal canal, the vertical tunnel in the vertebrae through which the spinal cord passes. In a patient who has a large canal, often a small herniated disc does not cause symptoms significant enough to warrant surgery. Another factor that is helpful in determining treatment involves whether or not any neurologic (nerve) symptoms are present. If a patient has true weakness and loss of reflexes, then often surgery is the best option.

Conservative treatment involves reducing the muscle spasm in the neck as well as reducing the inflammation around the nerve roots. For acute symptoms, I often recommend: (1) common nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, naproxen and ibuprofen: (2) a muscle relaxer such as Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine), Soma (carisoprodol) or Skelaxin (metaxalone); (3) pain medication. An exercise program supervised by a physical therapist can be helpful as well.

In certain patients, an epidural injection (a cortisone injection to the spine around the nerve roots) can be helpful for a herniated disc in the cervical spine, but it needs to be performed by an anesthesiologist experienced in cervical epidurals. The risks of this procedure are best discussed with your physician or the anesthesiologist who will perform the procedure. Doctors treat some patients with cervical collars, but the benefit of this is questionable. Cervical traction is another questionable treatment option.

You asked specifically about nonsurgical measures, but if a disc is compressing one of the nerve roots and the pain has not responded to the conservative measures, surgery becomes an option. Surgery involves removing the disc, then placing a bone graft taken either from a cadaver or the patient’s own pelvis. The bone graft is placed where the disc was, and the two vertebrae above and below it grow, or fuse, together.

Although any surgery on the cervical spine is a serious matter, the results of cervical discectomy (removal of the disc) are typically very good. Often patients awake in the recovery room to find that their pain has disappeared. In fact, patients with this type of surgery usually have very little neck pain after the surgery. The incision where the bone graft was obtained from the pelvis is usually more painful. For this reason, many patients choose to have cadaver bone.

After the surgery, the fusion can take up to three months to become solid. But once it becomes solid, patients can resume normal activities. In general, results are very good from this procedure.

If you, your family need a high quality, safe, cheap individual first aid kits and helpful survival advice, you’ve go to the right store.

“The forest was an ancient tangle, so dense that whispers
could not be heard between the leaves, so tall
that birds became caught in branches and never reached
the sunlight, but spent their lives in the twilight”

The Sequoia (Redwoods) were named by an Austrian botanist in honor of the Cherokee Chief Sequoyah (Sogwali or Sikway in their language) who invented a system to put his native language to paper thus teaching thousands of Native Americans to read and write. The written language united the Cherokee nation and made them leaders among other Native Americans.

To the Sinkyone-Lolangkok people (the Native Americans who lived in the area for nearly 11,000 years before the arrival of Don Gaspar de Portola in 1769) the trees did more than just inspire thoughts. The Sinkyone could tell how harsh the winter would be by looking at the bark on trees. They used the bark for their teepees, baskets, string and canoes, but more importantly they believed the trees had spirits. These spirits could influence their everyday lives.

By participating in ceremonies and establishing sacred places, they could show respect and get in touch with the natural spirits.

“Those trees were necessary for balance, harmony and beauty
in the world. All the animals and birds knew their importance
And spent their days and nights honoring their existence.”
— from “What the Trees Said When They Fell”

Native Americans believed (and many still believe) that the trees are our “kin,” which God created, but also they are our teachers, protectors, guardians and sources of power and knowledge. It is like a telepathic or symbolic understanding between people and all natural things (including trees).

“We are taught that the “powers” come in the form of natural forces and elements of Nature such as … Trees,” says Bobby Lake-Thom (Medicine Grizzly Bear) in his book, Spirits of the Earth. “[And] every part of the Earth is a physical and spiritual source of power and energy that directly affects us … because we also are an integral part of the great family in Creation.”

Lake-Thom says if all we do is take from Nature and never give anything back, we break the sacred circle. “We realize that we cannot survive or live without our ‘relations’ [Trees and animals]. We also realize that they cannot live without us; hence there is a reciprocal relationship.”

He says nature is talking to us, but most people are not listening. The few who do are called psychics, prophets or superstitious. It’s like saying nature itself is not natural. “Instinct, however, is a reality,” says Lake-Thom. “It is also a natural system of communication between Nature and the species, the mind and the body.”

Q.I’m doing research for a project at school. My topic is about lunch periods at my school being so short that kids have to “inhale” their food. What does eating too fast do to you? Can it make you sick?

Erin

A.It is unfortunate that your lunch periods are so short. You are right that people should take their time when they eat. Sometimes when we eat too fast, our stomachs can fill up too quickly and we feel sick. When we are able to eat at a normal pace, the stomach can empty and allow us to eat more food. This is a healthier way to eat and allows us to digest our food better.

A.Here’s one more thing to consider: If you talk a lot at lunch time, it can cause a lot of air to build up in your stomach and make you feel sick.

Also, it is nearly impossible to chew and swallow food when you are talking, so try cutting back on your lunch-room chats so you have more time to eat your food.

If you and your friends still find your lunch periods are too short to eat properly, ask your parents and teachers if they can do anything to lengthen your lunch break so you don’t have to “inhale” your food. Good luck!

I suffer from severe constipation. My symptoms are bleeding, hemorrhoids, and pain when passing a bowel movement. I have been using senna tea to effectively help soften my stools, but I am concerned about abusing this herb to the point where my system may no longer work on its own. I find if I do not drink the senna tea, I immediately become constipated again. Is it safe for me to drink my tea daily? I usually drink one-half to one cup each day.

Clare

A.
First, if you haven’t already seen your health care provider, it would be a good idea to schedule a visit to evaluate your constipation, bleeding and pain. The constipation can be causing the bleeding, pain and hemorrhoids, and those in turn may be encouraging the constipation. Your doctor will want to check for an anal fissure (tear) and rule out other causes of severe constipation like low thyroid and irritable bowel syndrome. Since many medications can cause constipation, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines.

Since the most common cause of constipation is deficient dietary fiber, the natural treatment includes increasing fiber-rich plant foods (fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts and seeds) as well as including a dietary fiber supplement such as psyllium or pectin. Also needed for a soft stool is plenty of liquid, so drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. Exercise helps promote normal bowel function, as does a regular time for defecation. High doses of vitamin C can have a natural laxative effect.

The problem with using stimulant laxatives like senna and cascara on a regular basis is that the bowel becomes accustomed to them and gets lazy, thus compounding the problem. After you start the dietary recommendations, gradually discontinue the laxative. Begin by taking the smallest amount of laxative necessary to ensure a bowel movement each day. After a week cut the dose in half, and continue decreasing by half each week until you have normal bowel function without the laxative.

Correcting the constipation should help relieve the hemorrhoids and the bleeding and pain. Natural hemorrhoid preparations will help to relieve local discomfort, as will warm sitz baths. Vitamin C and bioflavonoids supplements like rutin, hesperidin and bilberry can help strengthen vein walls to prevent hemorrhoids.

Early ejaculation is a trouble which frustrating a lot of couples. Happily, there is information that may help out you to end you premature ejaculation illness.

Each teaspoon contains only seven calories.

Very important are the glutathione, methionine, cysteine, selenium, and vitamin E in their role in cell protection and detoxification. Free radicals are a danger to all of us and we need all the nutrient support we can get.

The Wellness Mall: All these nutrients are naturally occuring?
DiFolco: Yes. This is the strength of the German Health Food Industry. It is basically a non-addictive type of industry. Everything there is just natural to the yeast.

The Wellness Mall: Why is the product called Zell Oxygen and what do you mean by oxygenated?
DiFolco: During the special process to make Zell Oxygen, oxygen is introduced into the fermentation process. “Zell” is a German word meaning call.

The Wellness Mall: Why would a person want to take this product?
DiFolco: It is my experience that on enjoys increased energy. Energy enhances the over-all health of metabolism of the body and the way you feel. In Germany, it is recognized for its use for a number of therapeutic effects and is widely used in Europe’s most famous health spas.

The Wellness Mall: Can Zell Oxygen be used by individuals who are prone to yeast infections?
DiFolco: These are two entirely different strains of yeast. Candida Albicans yeast is certainly a problem for many people, but this is Saccharomyces Cerv. strain of yeast. There are many different kinds of yeast, most of them have a positive effect on the body.

The Wellness Mall: How does one use the product?
DiFolco: For best results, one should take Zell Oxygen daily, with meals or shortly after. Adults should take two to six teaspoons daily divided into one to three portions. Children should take one to two teaspoons daily.

It can be taken straight from the spoon or added into a few ounces of any cool or cold beverage. Heat destroys the activity of the enzymes, so one should avoid mixing Zell Oxygen with hot beverages. (After opening, store in the refrigerator to prolong freshness.)

In Europe they add it to buttermilk or red beet juice.

The Wellness Mall: Is there anything else you would like to add?
DiFolco: Zell Oxygen is a very unique product. It is recommended by medical professionals all over the world, and by Linda Clark in her book “Rejuvenation.”

When you are feeling pressured and stressed out, it’s time to reach for the Zell.
